i want to learn how to play electric guitar any tips?

ok basicly i have nothing no guitar ummm nothing so is it hard?
do i need a acoustic guitar i need help i dont know anything!! :(
Nothing wrong with starting on an electric but I would recommend starting out on acoustic since they help you build up calluses, just play the basic chords A C D E F and G, chords are the base of all music

Buy a "Starter Guitar" package from a music store. They have Fender and Ibanez starter packs. Then just play as often as you can and for long periods of time even if you don’t know what you’re playing . Learn chords and get a guitar book that gives you tabs and teached you the notes and you can look up tabs online too. :)

^^^ I agree, thought it depends. If you have the tolerance and patience to get blisters on your fingers, then sure, buy a steel string acoustic. I think personally acoustically is a lovely place to start playing. I’m probably digressing now…

Yes, I do suggest also for you to buy a starter package. Squier, Epiphone and Ibanez make decent ones. Make sure they have a tuner, a lead and an amp. Tuner is important, and so is a basic guitar for beginners book or something along the lines of that, so you have a basic idea of how to make up songs. Learn scales. If you find un-contextual notes dull, then buy a band’s songbook. Nirvana, Green Day, Blink-182, and other power-cord-based bands are good to learn from for beginners.

Also, depends what stuff you want to play. If you’re trying to be a speed player, get an Ibanez. Epiphones come equipped with humbuckers, so if you want to get a Slash/Jimmy Page sound, you’d want those. But if you’re completely open to any genre, buy a Squier Strat Pack, because Strats are the most versatile electric on the planet.

Hope I helped. :) And good luck to you, sir/madam.

Guitar can be fairly simple depending on what you play. I would recommend starting small. Instead of jumping into solos and fast melodies, try slow chord progressions and slow melodies. Work your way up, and don’t get discouraged if you can’t do it the first time.

Also, there are plenty of sites which help you learn songs. (Most of them are in tab form, [Six lines, each representing a string, and numbers representing the fret on each line.]) One site I would recommend is http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/

Finally, keep in mind that your guitar won’t be able to play all songs right out of the box. Many artists use various distortion pedals.

    Good Luck.

Learning to play guitar isnt very hard if you really want to learn and you have the time and pacients…. When you go to get your guitar you should go to a music store and ask someone who works their for some advice, tell them your buying your first guitar, whether you want acoustic or electric, if you have a budget, let them know that too, and what style of music you want to play…. they will help you find the best guitar for your needs…. also ask them about guitar accessories you will need picks, a guitar strap, a capo, guitar stand, a tuner…. these are all important things to have when you first start learning to play guitar… If you have an electric guitar you’ll need to look into amps and cables too. Now if you can afford lessons you dont have to worry because your teacher will teach you, but if your learning all on your own you’ll have to do some research…. basicly just search online for things you dont know "what is a capo" "how to tune a guitar" "guitar chord diagrams" things like that, that you are unsure of… In order to learn a song you will need to know how to read tabs, chords, or music sheets; http://www.guitarchordsmagic.com/guitar-chord-charts/how-to-read-guitar-chord-charts.html this is where i learned how to read chords. Now once you learn how to read chords you can start to learn them, you should start out by learning basic chords like C D G A Am E Em with thoughs chords you can learn a lot of songs. You can also search video lessons on youtube for how to play guitar for beginners, I recommend checking out marty schwartz’s music lessons Ive learned a lot from watching his videos….
I hope this helps you, and good luck :)
