I need help with a style of guitar playing?

I'v seen a way of playing the electric guitar without hitting the strings by the pickup. Your not finger picking or picking with a pick. You press down on the strings with your right hand and you hit the notes on the neck. Does anyone know what im talking about? I'v seen it in solos and i wanted to know what its called, please help, thanks.

It's finger tapping. Very fun :D
Some good examples of finger tapping in songs are: the beginning guitar part in hot for teacher by van halen and the beginning part of heroes of sand by angra. If you're coordinated enough, you can tap more than one string at the same time. It's fun. Hope I helped ya.

I've been playing guitar for four and a half years now. I play I'm the guitarist for my high school's jazz band and mariachi band.

It's probally either fretboard tapping or tapped harmonics or it's air tapping where the guitars played like a piano
