Would it be possible for me to teach myself to play electric guitar?

Monday, January 18th, 2010

I want to learn to play electric guitar but I can’t afford lessons so I want to teach myself. I already know how to read tabs. Are there any helpful websites that could help me? I want to learn to play rock.

Hello there,

Take a look at this series of video lessons at Youtube. This guy has a series of 12 lessons. He covers the basics pretty well. I think you can pick up a lot of good information from these.

How long does it take to play electric guitar?

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

well im in 8th grade and 13 yrs old. i wanna learn to play guitar. How long will it take to read notes and chords etc. ?

Studies actually show that you are the perfect age to learn something new. Your brain is producing something called mylen at a fast rate, which insulates the neurons in the brain so you can perform a task, like playing guitar quickly.

So, you have a head start just because of your age. There are 2 big factors for you as you learn. 1. your passion 2. the information to fuel it. They both need to work together.

If you don’t care about guitar, then you’re not going to want to stick with it. Find what inspires you and plug into it! Secondly, if you spend your time trying to read music notes, or trying to conquer bar chords too early in the game, you’re going to waste so much time (even if you are practicing for 8 hours a day).

1 hour of practice of solid information is worth much more than 8 hours with bad information. Find a good source of information as well as inspiration. I’ve spent many years trying to create just that for someone like you! http://guitarmann.com

if i learn to play the electric guitar can i also play the bass guitar?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

i want to play both but can only afford one class to teach me one of these instruments. is it easier to play bass guitar if i take classes on how to play electric guitar or should i take bass guitar lessons first?

Please start with the one you like more. Both have different styles and techniques but ones you learn one of them and get familiar with music and music theory learning the other will be easier than learning the first one.
To give a short answer if you learn to play the electric guitar it does not mean that you can play a bass guitar too. But if you can play the electric guitar the bass guitar will not be a stranger to you. :)

Any good websites on how to learn to play the electric guitar?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I just need a good website that teaches how to read notes and fingering and all the basic skills to start off with.

Well… the best websites (that is, non-dvd or software) tend to cost money. If you don’t have money YouTube is probably the best place to start. The problem with YouTube is that you usually can only find scattered and incomplete information. Still… worth something I guess.

If you want something more resembling professional guitar lessons, I would highly recommend Jamplay. They have high-def videos, (*at least 340 hours worth*) and 20-30 highly qualified teachers, and multiple camera angels. I don’t know of any other learn guitar video site that even comes close to Jamplay. The review page that I linked to also has 2 different coupons that you can enter and save yourself a few bucks. :) All the best!

What are the best ways to learn to play electric guitar and how?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I just got a guitar on November 17, and I am very serious about playing guitar. I am a new guy to this, and I really don’t know where to start. So far, I know the A-Major Chord, and can play the intro of Come As You Are (barely!). I want to learn how to play guitar as soon as possible, and I want to learn everything possible on the guitar. I also want to get lessons absolutely free, because I have no money right now, and I want the lessons to be understandable as possible. Does anyone have the best ways to do so?
I;m on the internet much, so maybe that will help!

PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.

It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There’s also lesson on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.

whats the best website to use to learn how to play electric guitar?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

i want to learn how to play guitar, so thats why im asking this question. i have a first act amp and i know they arent very good.

Here is the thing about learning guitar :
If you are really devoted and want to learn to play, then get lessons..you will learn a lot faster and efficiently than just from learning on youtube .It will keep you more in focus .I remember when i was first learning,i taught myself and watching videos, but it was pretty difficult knowing i couldn’t ask the questions i needed to know …so go get lessons for a few months and when you think you know the basics ie: reading tabs, hammeron and pulloff, all that stuff..just go and play on your own.

easiest way to learn to play electric guitar?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Alright im 12 and have very little experience with guitar (unless guitar hero counts) and i wanted to know how to play a couple of notes because i kinda snuck a peak at the early presents!! lol please help!

Hi!

The best way - if your on a budget - is to have a guitar playing friend (perhaps a guitar playing teacher at your school or a relative) showing you a few tips and tricks to get started.

Be advised though that you will be better off by having some qualified instruction as soon as possible. It is very easy to pick up bad habits, and these may be harder to correct later on.

Your best option will to have someone help you get hold of a beginner guitar book or DVD, or better still one of the many online courses out there. All these options do cost money, of course.

The absolute best (and unfortunately, most expensive) is to be taught by a private guitar teacher. But don’t worry - some really great players are self taught :-)

I wish you all the best with you guitar playing!

How can I learn how to play electric guitar besides getting a teacher?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Ok so I took guitar lessons last year but dropped out because I hated the fact that I had to do it when I was in no mood for it, and I had to follow a strict practice 2 hours a day or I won’t be your teacher anymore thing. So I was wandering if there is any way to learn how to play electric guitar by myself using the internet. I have a BC Rich Warlock and a Fender Amp. I kinda forgot everything I learned last year because I haven’t played in so long. I’m more into metal stuff like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath etc. but I love bands like AC/DC. Also I’m 15.

You can get started in playing metal songs pretty quickly, since all you need to do is strum power chords with distortion. Here is a video lesson that deals with power chords: http://www.theguitarlesson.com/free-guitar-lessons/basic-lessons/basic-guitar-lesson-9

Make sure you learn other techniques as well, power chords won’t take you very far in the long run.

Can you play electric guitar songs on an acoustic guitar?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I want to play my favorite songs but I have an acoustic and the songs I listen to have an electric playing. Is it possible to have the rhythm or melody?
(new at guitar)

Oh boy, you must be really new to guitar haha.

Yes, anything you can play on electric, you can play on acoustic, and vice versa.

Of course, it wont sound exactly the same, but you can get the same notes and rhythm and such…

There are effects that you can only do on electric guitar, such as distortion, reverb etc

its the same situation as Keyboard vs Piano, one’s just the same as the other but with more gizmos, you can play the same exact things the same way on both.
