Do you have to play an acoustic guitar b4 playing an electric guitar?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Hey, im planning to start learning the guitar but i dont know which type to get, my parents say that u should start with the acoustic guitar and then move to the electric one.

thx

You don’t have to but it helps. The electric guitar can be a little trickier to play (smaller frets, not as much space between the strings etc), and it help if you’ve already had some experience with an acoustic. I only played and acoustic guitar for a few weeks maybe less before moving to electric but I’m glad I did (though I did already play bass). In the end, it’s helpful but not necsessary.

Playing electric guitar and adding effects through Guitar Pro?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I only get sound effects when playing through a song. How do I add effects to my guitar through Guitar Pro ?

Guitar pro is not an effects module, it’s notation software. Any effects run through a standard computersound crappy. Try finding a multi effects pedal online and buying it. It won’t be as good as a hardwired pedal, but try to find one with many effects so you can use it on your songs.

is it too late for me to start playing the electric guitar?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I really want to learn how to play guitar. some people told me i’m too old to start playing and that i should’ve taken lessons when i was younger to really master the guitar. i’m 13 years old, female and i’m wondering if its not too late to start playing and how long it would take for me to master the basics and be good enough to start performing.

You are certainly too old to learn to play anything if you are now on your deathbed with less than a week to live. At age 13 you are at a great age to learn an instrument.

I recommend you first learn on an acoustic guitar rather than an electric because you don’t need an amplifier with all its bells and whistles make you think you can play better than you would be doing. By learning on an acoustic you will develop good study and practice habits, get your calluses grown faster, and have the portability of an instrument that you can take almost anywhere.

I first learned to play on an acoustic at the old age of 16 years so you can get started now. I am still playing everyday and I’m old enough to be your grandpa.

How do i start playing my electric guitar?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Ok well recently my father bought me a Fender electric guitar because I have always dreamed of playing one. My whole family plays the acoustic guitar but I don’t like it (no offense to those who do). I seriously know very little about music and don’t even know where or how to start learning to play my guitar.

Lightningstorm95, what the hell are you talking about?? You don’t need to start out on an acoustic! You can start out on an electric just fine.

Look, man, I started out on a Telecaster knock-off, then I got me a Stratocaster (yes, Made in USA.) and I learned most of my guitar knowledge on my Strat. I have acoustics and they are especially handy on trips, but when it comes down to it, electrics are better to learn on.

To answer your question, bud, you can learn it anywhere. I’m sure you have a Wal*Mart near you somewhere. Go to the posters and look for a guitar chords or scales poster, or both. I got the chords poster and believe it or not, it helps! Take lessons on YouTube, and just play around with it. Find your feel and go with the groove.

Now, take note, your first year is gonna hurt, your fingers will get calises and they will HURT, but once you overcome the painful first year, it’s all one big joy ride. I’ll give you a list of some super easy songs to play.

1: AC/DC (Rhythm guitar is surprisingly easy. Learn some chords before playing some of this stuff, though.)

2: Cold Shot - SRV (NO SOLO. The rhythm is really easy and fun to jam on. You can try to play the solo, but you’ll fail miserably. Ask me how I know…)

3: Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple (What guitar player hasn’t played this one? Easiest song to play EVER.)

4: Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (The intro is 4 bar chords. That’s it… Kurt Cobain isn’t a guitar god like everyone wants him to be.)

5: Cocaine - Eric Clapton (Nailed this one no problem. There are 2 ways to play it.)

There’s some to get you going. I’m a blues player, just for the record. Also, go to some guitar tab websites and learn how to read tab.

There are a lot of others. Ultimate-Guitar is probably my favorite, though. Enjoy!

How do I avoid picking noises while playing electric guitar?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

So whenever I play guitar, the noise made by the pick comes through way too much in my amp. I’m rockin’ an Epiphone SG through a 15 Watt Spider III amp. Is it the pickups, or am I just way too agressive with my picking?

try using a lighter pick like a .38 gauge pick. it feels thin like paper but helps with speed picking

If I learn to play an acoustic guitar, can I apply the same skill to playing an electric?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Once someone learns to play an acoustic, can they just pick up an electric guitar and play it? Or vice-verse i.e. learning electric and being able to play acoustic, or are they too different to transfer the skill?

yes

Is it easier to go from playing nylon string guitar to electric guitar? or is it the other way around?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I tried playing an electric guitar after just playing the nylon string guitar for a few months and i was terrible everything felt so tight and compressed. Do people that go from electric to nylon have trouble?

The electric guitar uses steel strings that are higher in tension than a nylon string. It takes many years of playing on a nylon string to build up callouses and dexterity. Playing a steel string acoustic is much harder as far as callouses and strength are concerned but you will develop both much faster. An electric guitar is somewhere in between the two. Not as hard as a steel string acoustic but harder than a nylon string in terms of string tension. If your goal is to play an electric than I would recommend starting on a steel string acoustic to quickly build up callouses and strength. If your goal is to play a nylon string then start with it.
