    Define "a lot of money"?

I would imagine a lot would depend on where that park bench is, how much pedestrian traffic there is walking past the bench, the weather, what kind of music you're playing, and a bunch of other factors.

In most towns and cities, you'll need to obtain a permit if you want to play music in public for tips (aka "busking"). Without a permit, you could be ticketed and fined for loitering, or begging, or creating a public nuisance, or violating local noise ordinances, etc. Some cities won't issue permits to street musicians at all and will arrest buskers as loiterers, while others are more permissive about it, so it would be a really good idea to find out what the local ordinances are and make sure you have your paperwork in order before setting up on that park bench with your guitar and open case.

You can make enough to survive on IF and ONLY IF you have TALENT. If you only know a few chords and can't play them well,, you won't make too much.

I lived in Europe for 3 years when I was 17 and made enough to live on playing on streets or subway stations during the day and playing piano in bars for tips at night.

The one thing about busking is, you find out VERY QUICKLY if you can play a guitar as well as you THINK you can. If you don't make enough to pay bus fare back to your flat, then you know you aren't too good… but if you can make $30 or $40 a day then you know you are doing pretty well.

HINT; And I don't tell this all the time, but the best money I EVER made was when I ran into a guy in Copenhagen who was playing a Lute and we joined forces to play a duet when we met a girl from Eastern Europe.. I seem to remember she had come from Poland or Hungary… anyway, she was REALLY cute and played a violin like an angel…

As a Trio we made some really nice money… but it all broke up after about 6 months… it's a nice memory though.

thats something i'd do for fun rather than for money.

but it depends on your area, how many people walk by and if people actually like your music.
