i can play acoustic, but im looking into getting an elctric. how do u learn? whats the differnce between playing acoustic and electric?

There’s not much difference although you’ll obviously need to learn how to use pedals and amps to tweak the sound. You can learn by yourself or by using a specific book or dvd program

What are some easy songs to play on electric guitar?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I’ve been playing guitar for a couple of months now so I would consider myself a beginner so if you can provide me with some easy songs to play it would be great but don’t say the names of extremely simple songs like jingle bells etc

All the small things by blink 182

smoke on the water

smells like teen spirit by nirvana

pretty much anything by blink 182 will teach you fundamental power chords and harmonizing. But I suggest learning blink songs, then taking lessons to get better, and start expanding your music interests. Also learn how to read tabs if you don’t already, contact me if you want to learn I’ll teach you it’s simple.

Go to ultimate-guitar.com and find any tab for any song.

Tips on playing guitar and singing at the same time?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I’ve been playing guitar a little over two years, so I’m pretty decent by now. I can play the chords and such to the song fine, but when I try to sing along it just doesn’t work out well. Every once in a while I’ll get a few lines, but then mess up. I’m guessing practicing it over and over is the only way to really get better?

It is difficult but stick with it and you’ll get it. Break everything into manageable short chunks…even if its only a bar…and practice singing and playing until you nail that bar, then move on to the next one. When you start to get it, you won’t even think about what you’re playing on guitar anymore! And eventually you won’t have to practice like this for every new song, you’ll just be able to do it :)

I suck at playing the guitar! Tips please? :(?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Okay, I like to play a lot and I thought I was doing fine as I seem to be getting all the right chords and stuff, but I’ve recently recorded myself, and I suck. It sounds horribly to be honest. I don’t know how to play any better, I practice all the time.

Also my guitar has a really nasty sound. I want to play nice soft country songs and my guitar makes it impossible! Why is that? Do I have to clean it or something? I changed the strings not 3 months ago.

What did you use to record yourself with? It could just be what you used to recorded yourself with that went wrong and should try an alternate way. You know how if you record your voice using the everyday recorder but it never sounds right.

Also if you don’t like the way your guitar sounds, get a new one.

If none of that works, PRACTICE MORE!

Do acoustic-electric guitars play on electric guitar amps?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I have a 100 watt crate amp and am curious that if I bought an acoustic-electric guitar if it would be able to be played through my amp. I would like to avoid having to buy a whole other amp for this guitar.

Yep, it sure will! : )

How do you record yourself playing guitar with really good quality?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Im using my built in web came in my laptop..
I connect my stand-microphone with my laptop.. but the quality still is pretty bad.. does anyone know what machines i can buy so i can record my guitar playing with really good quality?

For less than $100 you can go pick up a USB instrument interface which lets you plug your guitar right into your computer or you can go through a microphone first (example below). Most interfaces work with both 1/4inch instrument cables and XLR inputs, so you can go grab any microphone and use it with the interface. Then you can go ahead and either pick up some studio software or use a free audio editing tool like Audacity.
I’ve recorded guitar/bass/drums/vox this way and it works very well, and for very little money.

What are some tips on improving my technique in playing guitar?

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

i been playing for half a year now and i really want to improve my technique.
for example, how should i play with my left hand? with my hand wraped around the next and my thumb resting on the top of the neck
or
my thumb resting at the middle of the back of the neck? btw i play electric guitar.

proper technique requires having the thumb on the back of the neck between 1/2 way and 3/4 way up.
There is a simple but extremely effective exercise that I give all of my students called the 4X4. This will help you with strength and dexterity, speed and accuracy. Play it with all four fingers.

Play this exercise ascending and descending at a steady pace for about 5 minutes a day. To get the most out of this exercise use a metronome and play at a tempo of approx. 65 and play 4 notes for each 1 click. Move the tempo up 1 click per day to achieve maximum results
I don’t know why it keeps cutting off the end of the tab but repeat the pattern on all 6 strings

What should I look for in a good acoustic guitar for playing blues for under 500 pounds?

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Are there any brands, modrls, shapes, sizes, types of wood in particular that you would recommend?

Washburn
Kona
and OSCAR SCHMIDT
are the three i recommend both to beginners and people looking to advance.

You want a standard dreadnought body if you can get your arms around it and you want a spruce Solid Top if you can get it.

Solid tops will sound great ten years from now but they cost a little more

non solid tops are made out of what is in essence plywood. and will sound how it is when you buy it for the life of the guitar.
