How can i play electric guitar without an amp?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I know this question may sound stupuid. i know you can play without amplification but it is very quiet. what i was thinking. was if it could happen like this.

Electric guitar -> PC -> HIFI system would this work?

like for example. i plugged the cable from my guitar into an adapter to go into my pc mic input. next i would get another cable going from my pc into a hifi system. Would this work?

but i guess the main question is how do i play electric guitar without an amp?

You could plug it into your computer like you are thinking. Or directly into the computer and play through it. Ive done that to record.

You can also plug into any speaker.

But honestly the best way is to plug into an Amp or PA system. Or micro amps which are good for portability.

what is the best dvd that makes you learn how to play the electric guitar?

i heard about Rock House Learn Rock Guitar Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Package is that any good if not give some requests. nothing that costs over $40.

If you are a beginner, then I would suggest Jamorama. It costs $40 and has an 8 week money back guarantee. Rock House has a 90 minute runtime on their DVD for $20 + taxes + shipping? etc. It is not a good value for other courses that are available. Jamorama will give you the fundamentals to play beginner material and eventually branch out into the advanced material in the later lessons. There are enough lessons to last you a year at one a week. I own the course, but bought it before there was a deal put in place. I noticed recently that for $55 you can get the Lead Guitar course and the regular Jamorama course too. Oh well… you can’t win them all. There is also a free 6 lesson course that you can try out with them first. It is a downloadable course, so you can begin it as soon as you buy it.

Best of luck with your playing and be sure to check out some articles on how to practice. 30 mins a day will do you a world of good over a 3 hr weekend session.

Tips for playing guitar standing up?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

I am confident in my guitar playing skills… when I’m seated.

When i stand up and play i can’t do any fast picking or fingering, and everything just sounds awful.

I think my hand position sucks considering my thumb starts to hurt like hell on the back of the neck.. but i don’t know how else to position my hand so i would be able to play better?

Please give me any advice besides "practice more."

Thanks.

Either your guitar strap is at an akward height or you are bending your arm funny. Since I cant see you or how you hold your arm I would suggest adjusting your strap. But then again, some styles of playing are just meant to be in positions you can only have while sitting down.

You probably learned to hold your guitar incorrectly sitting down, so its non- transferrable to you.

If your at a gig and this happens, just sit down and play on the floor, Im sure no one will mind, unless it’s during church service =P.

Any tips for beginner guitar playing?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I’m really excited because I’m going to join this club at the college called AI Musicians, I have always wanted to play the guitar and they told me that they would teach me to play! But guitar seems really hard to learn so do you have any tips on good playing techniques or tips to improve my playing?

I don’t have a guitar personally so I’ll only be able to practice at school after classes since I’ll be there till late waiting for my mom to get off work.

Is there any way you can buy/borrow a guitar?. Bass is a lot easier to play as you only have 4 strings. Try playing polly by nirvana which is easy to learn. In time, it comes! Practice makes perfect but do it the smart way. Have you checked out http://practiceplus.info - they send out tipsheets on how to practice and i got really good from reading the info they send!

i want to learn to play electric guitar, is it hard?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

ok so here’s the deal. i got my first acoustic guitar in oct or 2007.
even though its been a year and a half already, i’m not amazing at it. but i know a few things. i’m just trying hard to learn by myself since i can’t take lessons and stuff. but anyways. i really want to play the electric now. is it hard to learn?

or should i stick to acoustic for a while and get better at that and then start playing electric.

If you have been playing acoustic for that long, it should actually be easier to go to electric. The action is a lot lower and your fingers should already be conditioned to playing a set of more aggressive strings.

There are a few electric techniques that don’t really apply to acoustic, but they aren’t hard to pick up.

It shouldn’t be hard at all.

what are some realy good songs to play on acoustic guitar?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

hi,
i havent yet started playing guitar but i am going to be takeing classes to learn how to play acoustic guitar..and i would like some ideas on what to play it dosent matter if it is easy or hard because i would like to learn both types of songs ..thanks

First of all, if your instructor is worth a darn, s/he will have songs to teach you to eventually play. Just don’t expect to be playing right away. I’ve taught well over a hundred students in my time, and it takes a great deal of persistence and dedication to get from zero-to-strum songs.

In my network, we begin with things like "In The Jungle" and "Wonderful World," songs like that with 3 or 4 chords that repeat.

Enjoy your lessons!

how complicated is making the transition from guitar playing to keyboard/piano?

how complicated is making the transition from guitar playing to keyboard/piano?

I have been playing guitar for a few years now. I still have lots to learn but have taken an interest in the keyboard/piano. Not sure if I should get a weighted keyboard with 88 keys or a note weight digital piano with 88 keys. Any suggestions?

Honestly, it shouldn’t be that hard at all. If you break down the neck of the guitar into a diagram of the notes going all the way up the scale from an open on the Low E to a 18-22 (however many frets you have on your guitar) on the High E… it’s essentially a keyboard.

The technique is different, but that’s to be expected when switching instruments.

Fundamentally, they are both very similar in the fact that they are percussion instruments (at least the guitar and the piano) because the sound is created by vibrations emanating from the strings. With a keyboard or digital piano, the sound is going to be created digitally so it lacks this trait, but they have a shared ancestry with the piano.

When it comes down to what to buy, I would get the one with the larger sample bank or the more advanced sampling capabilities. But that’s just a personal preference. The way I feel is if you could have an orchestra (or more) at your fingertips, why wouldn’t you?

But regarding the difficulty of switching, it’s all mathematics. If you understand music theory you’ll have a much easier time. It’s still possible to make the switch without a vast knowledge of music theory but understanding the underlying principles between different notes and their relationships as well as their places in a historical context would make it infinitely easier.
