This is me after 1 month after starting to play the guitar. I was very motivated by funtwo and all the other great people who can do the canon rock song so i decided to learn it among other things. Ok. Heres my (strange) situation.
First of all, I got a bass guitar a few months ago that i have pretty much taught myself to play.
I am getting an electric guitar for christmas, but its also going to be my sister's so i wont always have access to it.
I have been researching acoustics alot because at first thats what i thought I wanted.
Yesterday I went to guitar center and checked out the acoustics in the $100 range(because im a beginner.)
It wasnt really what I expected, I guess. Probably because I never asked for a pick (Oops.) And I was just playing random chords I made up(If thats possible.haha.)

Should I still get one to practice with, and to bring places?

Strange question, sorry it took so long for me to get to the point.

It's actually a good idea to start on an acoustic guitar when possible. Especially since if you take lessons at school, trying to carry a guitar and amp to school along with books isn't all that easy to do. And an electric guitar would probably be discouraged for school lessons.
And you can take an acoustic anywhere. I see lots of kids with acoustics in a gig bag on their backs going to school.

The basics of playing guitar are identical no matter what type you are playing.

I know girls usually like guys that can play and sing songs like Hey There Dalilah on acoustic guitar and such but how about the electric guitar? I'm teaching myself and I haven't had any lessons and i'm pretty decent. I play things from punk to metal but I can also play the love songs like Hey There Dalilah and Wherever You Will Go by the Calling. So girls what is your opinion on guys that play the style of guitar that I do?

i would be impressed if you can totally do some crazy solos.
